RYDE | World’s First Real-time Carpooling App | Behind the Drive – Sulaiman Osman
RYDE is a community based initiative that uses mobile and geo-location technology to match riders, who request for rides, with drivers going the same way. At the end of the ride, riders donate cash directly to drivers to defray the cost of the trip. RYDE does not take a cut from the donation but charges a booking fee, through a credit card transaction, to facilitate the match.

1) Share with us your most memorable carpool experience (or share a few!)

Most of my riders see me as a friend. We are able to chit chat, exchange knowledge or even crack jokes. We are not taxi drivers, and there may be some new roads we are not aware of. Some riders share tips, for example travelling on PIE towards Tuas during peak hours at Kelling Expressway etc.

I had a “scary” experience when I accepted a request at Riverside road. There is a SAKURA INTERNATIONAL BUFFET below deserted open space carpark at 10.30pm. I thought the rider was a “ghost”. I was really scared and had to check if she has “legs”. We had a good laugh after I told her about the incident!

2) Why do you want to win the car?

Car sharing helps us to reduce our carbon footprint. The Mitsubishi Attrage 1.2 CC litre car is fuel efficient. If I win, I can get to do more carpools and perhaps lower the trip fare for my riders!
