RYDE | World’s First Real-time Carpooling App | Behind the Ride – Belinda’s Take on Carpooling
RYDE is a community based initiative that uses mobile and geo-location technology to match riders, who request for rides, with drivers going the same way. At the end of the ride, riders donate cash directly to drivers to defray the cost of the trip. RYDE does not take a cut from the donation but charges a booking fee, through a credit card transaction, to facilitate the match.

28 Oct Behind the Ride – Belinda’s Take on Carpooling

Belinda! We’re glad to have you for this interview.

Maybe you could start by telling us a little bit more about yourself?

Hi, I am Belinda, a senior executive.

Where do you live? What are your commuting patterns in the week?

I live in the East and work at Central area, hence my commuting patterns are fixed. I carpool regularly from work to get home. On weekends, I will explore other places in Singapore, especially right now I am raved over Pokemon Go, haha.

How did you know about RYDE? How did it change your life?

Through Facebook news feed. I thought it was an interesting new concept in Singapore to try out, and so I took the first step by downloading the app and I have not looked back ever since! ☺

RYDE has helped me in terms of transportation cost-savings and what’s more valuable is this: I get to know and even befriend some of the drivers! We even share our travel experiences and where to find good food in Singapore!

What was your most memorable carpooling experience?

I had a bilateral knee operation at beginning of the year and was in the rehabilitation stage then. The RYDE driver who came to pick me saw that I was using the walking aid and he parked his car aside, got off and came to help me. Upon my destination, he offered to help me to get to my unit to make sure I got home safely. A big thank you to such a kind and wonderful driver! He has indeed left a very memorable carpooling experience for me.

Would you support a Singapore start-up?

Of course, anytime! RYDE has indeed brought great changes to the community on how we commute. This carpool concept to me is a win-win situation for both drivers and riders.
