27 Jun Behind the Ride – Corene’s Take on Carpooling
Hey Corene! Thanks for taking time off for this feature.
Maybe you could start by telling us a little bit more about yourself?
I’m Corene. Currently self-employed, doing sales and business development. I meet people and travel to different locations to attend meetings daily. Besides work, I travel for leisure too! I enjoy hanging out with my friends. We work hard and play hard. I love to network and make new friends.
Where do you live? What are your commuting patterns in the week?
Choa Chu Kang. Public transport has taken too much of my time, especially when I travel to town. It takes me about an hour plus to reach as I have to take a bus first then MRT.
I also travel overseas to meet clients sometimes and the time taken from my place to the airport is too far with public transport! I believe time is precious and I don’t mind spending a little bit more for a comfortable car ride. I use RYDE on daily basis. I’ll usually put up a request a few hours in advance.
How did you know about RYDE? How did it change your life?
I knew about RYDE from drivers from other car app services. I pay a lower fare with RYDE. With the same price I pay for taxis, I can take about two RYDE trips. Besides that, I get to experience sitting in a different car every day, even the more high-end ones!
I’ve introduced this app to all my friends, business partners and even posted it on Facebook. I believe this will help them to save some money. They all love it and already started using this. Word of mouth is indeed powerful.
What was your most memorable carpooling experience?
What’s memorable for me is being remembered by some of the drivers who have picked me before. Some of them are even willing to go a little bit out of the way to pick me. This friendship built is what I have not experienced using other apps. RYDE allows me to expand my social circle, meeting people from different backgrounds.
Would you support a Singapore start-up?
I strongly support this start up and encourage everyone to do the same. Due to the rise in cost of living, we have to save as much as we can. Besides that, private car owners can get to offset petrol costs when they are on their way to work or back home. It’s a win-win situation for both riders and drivers!
