RYDE | World’s First Real-time Carpooling App | Behind the Ride – Regina’s Take on Carpooling
RYDE is a community based initiative that uses mobile and geo-location technology to match riders, who request for rides, with drivers going the same way. At the end of the ride, riders donate cash directly to drivers to defray the cost of the trip. RYDE does not take a cut from the donation but charges a booking fee, through a credit card transaction, to facilitate the match.

14 Jul Behind the Ride – Regina’s Take on Carpooling

Hey Regina, thanks for being part of this feature!

Maybe you could start by telling us a little bit more about yourself?

I am a full time yoga instructor. I love my job especially when my students meet their goals, be it to destress, lose weight or to build strength/flexibility.

Where do you live? What are your commuting patterns in the week?

I stay near Orchard and have to travel to the west (Boon Lay) and east (Tampines) area depending on my lesson location.

How did you know about RYDE? How did it change your life?

I first discovered RYDE through Facebook and since then it has been my favourite way for travelling, especially for long distances. It really saves me time while being in the comfort of a car.

What was your most memorable carpooling experience?

Through RYDE, I’ve met many interesting people from different backgrounds – an entrepreneur who sells Air Swimmers (google if you don’t know what it is), a musician, a computer genius and the list goes on. I have interesting conversations in the car which I love rather than sitting in the MRT being preoccupied with my phone.

Would you support a Singapore start-up?

My motto is always to support local business whenever I can. It’s not easy for local startups to compete with the big boys so we need to support these brave souls who have the guts to create something new.
