RYDE | World’s First Real-time Carpooling App | Behind the Ride – Valerie’s Take on Carpooling
RYDE is a community based initiative that uses mobile and geo-location technology to match riders, who request for rides, with drivers going the same way. At the end of the ride, riders donate cash directly to drivers to defray the cost of the trip. RYDE does not take a cut from the donation but charges a booking fee, through a credit card transaction, to facilitate the match.

15 Feb Behind the Ride – Valerie’s Take on Carpooling

Hello Valerie! Thanks for taking time off for this interview.

Maybe you could start by telling us a little bit more about yourself?

I am a pretty lazy person when it comes to commuting but yet, I like to exercise… the irony!

Where do you live? What are your commuting patterns in the week?

I stay at Kovan. I commute from Kovan to my workplace in the East and back on weekdays. RYDE is my top choice most of the time, unless I can’t get one.

How did you know about RYDE? How did it change your life?

My friend introduced it to me and it has helped me to save a lot of money on transport! RYDE trips are about 40% cheaper on average compared to taxi rides.

What was your most memorable carpooling experience?

It was getting to know a driver who travelled the exact same route as me every morning and as a result, we agreed to engage each other daily. I wasn’t expecting to make meaningful relations out of my daily commutes.

Would you support a Singapore start-up?

Yes of course. I look forward to seeing the RYDE community grow and make more improvements that are beneficial to both riders and drivers.
