FAQs

How do I get started?

Download the RYDE app from Apple App Store or Google Play Store and register an account. Verify your profile with a photo ID (IC/passport/work permit).

Why should I verify my profile?

This increases your chances of a match as drivers consider various factors when accepting ride requests.

Only your profile picture is visible. Your ID details would not be disclosed to other parties. Upload a friendly photo of yourself!

We are a social network and our members use real names. Nicknames are not acceptable so as to create a safer community.

How do you calculate trip costs?

Our algorithm calculates trip costs based on distance, according to the principle of cost recovery. These include fuel, maintenance and depreciation costs for the driver.

Can I choose my driver?

Yes. You can look for drivers offering rides around you and request a ride from them.

If you use “on-demand” or “advance request”, a driver going the same way may accept your request.

We work to ensure that drivers in our network are verified and have good reviews. Drivers with average rating below 4 stars are suspended for 1 month.

Can I travel with another rider?

Definitely, if the driver accepts your request! Note the number of riders when submitting your request and contact the driver after the match to confirm that there is room.

What if I have bulky items like a luggage?

Do make a note of the requirement in your ride request so that drivers can decide if they can accommodate. Contact the driver to confirm after the match. Be considerate!

What is an 'advance request'?

This option allows riders to request a trip up to 7 days in advance. To carpool effectively, give drivers more time to plan. Contact the driver after a match!

Can I make changes to my 'advance request'?

You may recall your request anytime before a match. After you have been matched with a driver, you may not cancel the request.

Every confirmation is a commitment. For carpooling to work, both parties should be punctual and respectful. However, should you wish to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances, please contact the other party to explain politely.

Is carpooling legal?

Absolutely! RYDE is not a taxi service. We are a social enterprise that use technology to facilitate carpooling. Most city planners promote carpooling as a sustainable alternative. We match people driving to and from work with someone going the same way. This reduces congestion and carbon emissions.

How do I sign up?

Download the RYDE app from Apple App Store or Google Play Store to register. We require drivers to upload relevant documents in the RYDE app for verification. You must satisfy the following requirements:

1. Private Car
2. Valid driving license
3. All car makes and models
4. Valid insurance

What documents do I need for verification?

Can I choose who I share my ride with?

Yes. Drivers can see riders’ profile pictures, verification status and their last 7 reviews when accepting a ride request.

What about insurance?

Drivers’ vehicle insurance remains valid as carpooling is not for profit. It is similar to giving friends or family a lift and then splitting trip costs. Drivers can also give free rides!

How do I accept an “advance request”?

Accept an advance request the same way as an on-demand request. Riders may request for a trip up to 7 days in advance. Contact rider to confirm after a match!

What is RYDE’s cancellation policy?

There is no option for cancellation after a match but you may recall an advance request before a match.

If you need to cancel, please call the other party to explain directly. Be polite and review the other party thereafter.

In the event the other party fails to show up (“no show”), you may email support with details to request for a credit refund. Refunds are made on a case by case basis.

What if the other party does not show up?

Members can rate the other party poorly for “no shows”. This is a strong deterrent against inconsiderate behavior as low ratings may eventually deny members access to our service.

Why do we need to provide reviews?

We are an open social network and believe in the power of the community to self-regulate. After each trip, riders and drivers are given the opportunity to rate one another based on their trip experience.
